Chris Ahrens
Chris Ahrens has surfed for over 50 years. He worked as the editor of several surf magazines and wrote for every major surfing publication in the U.S. Ahrens once held a world’s record for having the most people to ride one wave and has MC’d numerous events, including two world surfing competitions, the Moores Cancer Center Luau and Longboard Invitational (22 years); and the Switchfoot Bro-Am (10 years). He has been the subject of numerous articles in the SD Reader and other North County Papers. Ahrens “learned to write through desperation” during a time when he was “broke and homeless, living on the beaches of NSW, Australia (1972-1974)” – a time when “fifty bucks from an article could last an entire month.” Chris volunteers with AB&C Youth Foundation and likes to teach surfing to high school and middle school students.
