Spiny Succulents at UC Berkeley Botanical Garden

February 15 @ 10:00 am12:00 pm

Join author Jeff Moore on a visual journey through his newest book Spiny Succulents, as he shares examples of cultivated cacti, euphorbias, pachypodiums, alluaudias, and some other related mostly spiny xerophytic plants (such as terrestrial bromeliads). Most of the images are of examples of these plants in California landscape/botanical garden situations. Jeff will discuss these plants from a nursery owner’s perspective, and will take questions regarding care.

There will be examples of the unique collector plants in the above genera, including crested and variegated specimens and show plants.

Following the book talk, Jeff will lead visitors through the succulent collection at UCBG.

Jeff Moore has owned and operated Solana Succulents in Solana Beach near San Diego for 29 years, a small retail specialty nursery (www.solanasucculents.com). He has now published 4 books on succulents, beginning a fifth on the genus Dudleya as a collaborative effort with several authorities.

All program fees include same day admission to the Garden, rain or shine (a $15 value per adult).
