Both authors have had long careers in anthropology and are now retired from museum and university teaching positions. William A. Turnbaugh, Ph.D. in Anthropology from Harvard University, is Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at the University of Rhode Island, where he taught for more than three decades and wrote on many anthropological topics including ethnic arts. In 2007 he received an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, Lycoming College, in Williamsport, PA. Sarah Peabody Turnbaugh received her A.B. in Anthropology from Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges and her M.S. in Textiles from the University of Rhode Island and was the long-time curator and executive director of a small Rhode Island museum.
