Internships

An Internship with Sunbelt is a great opportunity for someone with an interest in learning about the publishing industry. Entering an Internship in publishing is an adventure in an ever changing and challenging industry that is constantly subject to new innovations that change how people interact with what they read and how they find out about new publications.  To enhance their work experience, interns will become familiar with all aspects of book publishing while working with seasoned professionals in day-to-day responsibilities and helping with special projects.

Our Internship Program is designed to give our interns exposure to a variety of departments, including Customer Service, Sales, Marketing, Production, Shipping, and assisting with author events.

Each book product is unique and requires individualized marketing and sales promotion to reach its targeted audience. Our interns must be flexible and able to handle the daily challenges and opportunities within the publishing field. We look for Interns who have a passion for books, are high-energy, take initiative, possess strong communication skills and work effectively with others. The ideal applicant should have a strong academic record.

Interns must have excellent written and oral communication skills and must be task-oriented with an ability to start and finish projects assigned to them. An intern should be a self-starter, have an ability and willingness to tackle any task at hand, and be extremely detailed oriented and organized.

Marketing, Business, Journalism/Communications, and English majors can gain experience in these fields. Interns may receive class credit for their time at Sunbelt. Arrangements must be made with a counselor or advisor prior to the internship. Internships are available year-round.  Applicants must be 16 years or older and have the right to work in the United States. Applicants under 18 must have their parent’s or guardian’s consent to participate in the program. All internships take place at Sunbelt Publications in Chula Vista, CA.

The ideal candidate is able to work 12-18 hours per week. Travel and housing expenses are not covered. We can arrange hours to fit class schedules. Skills useful for the publishing industry include: familiarity with Microsoft Office Applications, especially Excel, and familiarity with Internet research, blogs, and social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. Especially useful is familiarity with design programs, such as InDesign and Adobe Photoshop.
