Robert “Skip” Hellewell, a California native, first visited Laguna Beach on a surfing expedition in 1957.  During his college years he served a mission to the countries of Central America.  Hellewell then became an engineer and father to a large family.  The success of a medical device company in which he was an officer enabled a new career: by-the-sea author. His focus today is entertaining grandchildren and writing on topics of interest. Past books, all of modest fame, include a biography of his father-in-law, Midway to Heaven; a family history, I Love You Truly, The Lessons of Our Lives; and Zion by the Sea, the history of a church in Laguna Beach.  His most recent book is Loving Laguna, A Local’s Guide to Laguna Beach. He also authors the popular nutrition blog, WordofWisdomLiving.com.
