H/3/1 Marines in Korea

HOW Company, Third Battalion, First Marine Regiment, First Marine Division

The Few, The Proud, surely sums up the Marines of H/3/1. The challenges of war, combat, determination, comradery in extreme danger, and the need for occasional levity in the face of dire circumstances, are depicted in the firsthand recollections included within these pages.

HOW Company, Third Battalion, First Marine Regiment, First Marine Division arrived in Korea as part of the amphibious landing force at Inchon on September 15, 1950. The Company left Korea in March 1955 returning to Camp Pendleton. Paul Gulick served in H/3/1 and became aware of the “H/3/1 Reunion” in 1995. This book was brought to life from the conversations and stories shared at those reunions. Gathered here is a day-to-day compilation of events that occurred during H/3/1’s service in Korea as provided by H/3/1 members who attended those reunions, enriched by Paul Gulick’s historical research.
